Summary
Interleukin-7 (IL-7) is a pleiotropic cytokine essential for T-cell development, survival, and homeostatic proliferation. Recombinant forms (e.g., CYT107/rhIL-7) are under clinical investigation for immune reconstitution in settings such as HIV/AIDS, sepsis-induced lymphopenia, cancer immunotherapy, and post-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. No form is currently approved by major regulatory agencies for therapeutic use.
Mechanism of Action
Binds to the IL-7 receptor (IL-7Rα/CD127 paired with γc chain/CD132), activating JAK1/JAK3 and downstream STAT5 signaling pathways, promoting survival, proliferation, and differentiation of T lymphocytes and B lymphocyte precursors; critical for T-cell homeostasis and lymphocyte reconstitution.
